Altaaqa Alternative Solutions has won Specialist Contractor of the Year at the MEP Middle East Awards 2014, held on Wednesday 26 November at Sofitel The Palm Resort & Spa in Dubai.
The consultant overcame competition from category finalists Arabian MEP Contracting and Al Sabbah Electromechanical Contracting (SEMCO).
Accepting the award, Emad Mukhalalaty, managing director for Altaaqa Alternative Solutions, said: “It’s an amazing feeling. We have been looking forward to winning an award from a recognised organisation and this is it. I think the guys back home deserve this award because they worked very hard for it.
"A lot of people take electricity for granted. But electricity touches the lives of a lot of people in different ways. We value how important it is to others to receive what they need with the quality and timeframe that is needed. That is something we put high on our agenda as well."
Andrew Keddis, business development manager, added: "I think we’re in a very unique industry – providing temporary power solutions. As the judges said, it really requires nerves of steel sometimes. It’s really a milestone for us – not just to look at, but to move forward, be better in the future and excel in what we’re doing."
The judges praised Altaaqa Global for is introduction of “a high level of coordination and planning” into their work and, according to one judge, it has had to show “nerves of steel” to deliver on its promises. The specialist contractor also attracted particular praise for its work in Saudi Arabia, where it built a 95MW temporary power plant in 27 days.
Majid Zahid, Altaaqa'a director of strategic accounts, said: "We’re very proud at the moment. Altaaqa in Saudi Arabia has been in the industry for a good 10 or 11 years. We’re going from strength to strength and we hope to continue to do that. We have to give total credit to the team. As Emad was saying, everybody back home deserves every piece of credit for this and, of course, the leadership, the management and the people on the ground. We hope to continue our professionalism and take it to the next level."
