Altaaqa Alternative Solution’s 95 MW rental power plant in Al Kharj, the largest temporary power plant and the fastest ever built in the history of the Kingdom, received the coveted National Winner in Saudi Arabia award at the annual MEED Quality Awards for Projects, in association with Mashreq, the only awards programme recognising achievements in project excellence in the GCC. The presentation ceremony was held on May 27, 2015 at The Address Dubai Marina, United Arab Emirates.
This is the third award Altaaqa has received for the rental power plant, which was completed in only 22 days and supported the Kingdom’s electricity supply during the summer months of 2014, allowing the country’s industries, particularly oil & gas, to produce sufficiently and satisfy the global demand. Thanks to the 95 MW temporary power plant, a global oil supply crisis was averted, and the stability of the global economy was maintained.
Commenting on the achievement, Emad Mukhalalaty, Managing Director of Altaaqa, said: “This award will further encourage the entire team at Altaaqa to continue providing its customers with innovative and quality solutions that exceed their expectations. This will inspire us to further enhance our processes and take on projects that push the envelope of engineering best practice.”
‘’These awards recognise the best achievements in project delivery in the region and I’m delighted that Altaaqa’s 95 MW rental power plant project in Al Kharj, Saudi Arabia received the recognition it deserves,’’ said Richard Thompson, Editorial Director at MEED. “The projects that are being built today are laying the foundation for the future and MEED is honoured to be able to recognise and celebrate the very best project achievements the region has to offer.’’
Now in its 5th year, the MEED Quality Awards for Projects, in association with Mashreq, is a highly sought after distinction that recognises projects based on a rigorous selection process, with the winners determined by a distinguished panel of independent judges who are all acknowledged, regional and international experts in the projects market.
The criteria for selection of the winners is based on engineering and construction excellence as well as economic, social and environmental impact.
